New Course Guidelines & Application

    • 每学期末校委将持续进行评估,收集家长与学生的反馈,并结合指导教师意见,决定是否继续开设、暂停或调整该课程。

        四、拟开设新课程的取消机制

       尽管新课程经评估批准后原则上可进入实施阶段,但为确保教学质量与教学资源的有效利用,学校保留随时作出调整、延期或取消的权利。适用情形包括但不限于以下情况:

  1. 如学生报名人数未达开班标准,拟开设的新课程将被自动取消;
  2. 如教学资源(教室、时间段)已满,拟开设新课程将延期至下一学期重新评估;
  3. 如因课程筹备时间不足或教学准备不充分,可能导致课程教学质量无法保障,拟开设新课程将延期至下一学期重新评估;

Regulations for Launching New Courses at ICCCI Chinese School

Provisional Version | May 2025

To support the school’s continued development, make effective use of educational resources, and align new courses with its educational mission, ICCCI Chinese School (“the School”) establishes the following principles and procedures.

I. General Principles

  1. Student Needs: New courses must address clearly identified learning needs and demonstrate sufficient enrollment interest.

  2. Instructional Quality: Instructors must have the teaching skills and experience needed to provide high-quality instruction.

  3. Available Resources: Course approval depends on available classroom space, scheduling, and staffing. Some proposals may require deferred implementation.

  4. Planning and Approval: All proposed courses must be reviewed and formally approved by the school committee as part of semester planning.

II. New Course Proposals by Adult Instructors

1. Application Submission

Instructors must submit the ICCCI Chinese School New Course Application Form to the school committee no later than one month before the end of the preceding semester.

2. Committee Review

The school committee will evaluate:

  • Alignment with the School’s educational mission and potential duplication or conflict with existing courses.

  • Demonstrated student interest, with a minimum of six enrolled students recommended.

  • Availability of classrooms, scheduling, and other instructional resources.

  • Instructor qualifications and readiness.

3. Pilot Implementation

Proposals that meet the initial criteria may be approved for a one-semester pilot program.

During the pilot semester, the school committee will assess instructional quality, student engagement, and feedback.

4. Inclusion in the Regular Curriculum

After successful completion of the pilot semester, courses with favorable outcomes and student feedback may be included in the School’s regular curriculum for future semesters.

III. New Course Proposals by Student Instructors

The School encourages high school students to develop leadership and teaching skills through the following process.

1. Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years old.

  • Have completed at least two semesters or 30 documented hours as a teaching assistant, classroom volunteer, or substitute instructor at the School.

  • Demonstrate dedication and professionalism, supported by a recommendation letter or favorable performance evaluation from a lead instructor.

2. Application Submission

Applicants must submit the ICCCI Chinese School New Course Application Form to the school committee no later than one month before the end of the preceding semester.

3. Mentorship

First-time student instructors must work with an adult instructor or academic coordinator who serves as a mentor.

The mentor will provide ongoing guidance and oversight on course content, classroom management, and teaching methods.

4. Teaching Demonstration

Applicants must present a 30-minute sample lesson to a review panel consisting of school committee members or senior teaching staff. The panel will evaluate communication skills and teaching ability.

5. Pilot Approval

Approved student-led courses will operate as one-semester exploratory programs. Examples include calligraphy, cultural studies, visual arts, and public speaking.

6. Evaluation and Continuation

At the end of each semester, the school committee will review student and parent feedback and mentor assessments to determine whether the course should continue, be suspended, or be adjusted.

IV. Course Adjustment, Postponement, or Cancellation

Approval does not guarantee that a new course will proceed. The School may adjust, postpone, or cancel a course to maintain instructional quality and use resources effectively.

Reasons include, but are not limited to:

  1. Insufficient Enrollment: A course will be canceled if enrollment does not meet the required minimum.

  2. Resource Constraints: A course will be postponed for reevaluation in the following semester if classroom space, scheduling, or other necessary resources are unavailable.

  3. Insufficient Preparation: A course will be postponed for reassessment in the following semester if preparation time or instructional readiness is inadequate.

  4. Low Student Interest or Engagement: A course may be adjusted or canceled if surveys, feedback, or participation indicate insufficient interest or engagement.

V. Miscellaneous

These regulations take effect on the date of issuance. The school committee retains final authority to interpret these provisions.
