ICCCI 中文学校举办三十周年教师答谢会:薪火传文化,桃李满三旬

印第安纳州卡梅尔市讯 —— 印城华夏文化中心(ICCCI)中文学校近日举办教师答谢会,作为中心及学校成立三十周年系列庆祝活动的重要环节。这所 1995 年由 9 个华人移民家庭共创的学校,如今已成长为拥有 28 位教师、15 个中文班、23 个课外班,近 300 名学生的成熟社区中文教育中心。
本次答谢会邀请了 40 余位在职、退休及代课教师,ICCCI 理事会成员,校委及家长教师联谊会(PTO)成员悉数到场。众人共同回顾学校三十年发展历程,见证其从起步到辉煌的蜕变。现任校长张艳博士表示,学校发展并非一帆风顺,正是所有组织者与志愿者的不懈付出,才铸就了今日的成就。
 

三十载深耕:从 “家长任教” 到 “多元高学历师资”

ICCCI 中文学校初创时,由家长担任教师,以 “传承中华文化” 为初心。如今师资力量显著升级,汇聚了教育学博士、大中小学在职教师,以及科技、工程领域的博士、硕士人才。他们以热忱投入教学,构建了丰富的课程体系:
  • 文化类:中文教学为核心,搭配国画、武术、唱歌、写作等课程,夯实文化根基;
  • 兴趣类:由优秀高中生担任 “小老师”,开设数学、国际象棋、围棋等课程,激发学习兴趣;
  • 热门新增类:近年推出的口才、模特、乐队、演讲朗诵课程,广受学生欢迎。值得一提的是,每年有非亚裔学生报名入学,让校园文化更趋多元,也彰显了中华文化的独特吸引力。

 

协作向未来:年轻团队 + 家校合力,续写新篇

学校校委团队的年轻化、家长教师联谊会(PTO)的壮大,为学校发展提供了坚实支撑。除提升教学质量外,学校还通过嘉年华、文艺演出、学科比赛等活动,增强师生的认同感、参与感与成就感,让学生为自身文化身份自豪。
ICCCI 中文学校的三十年,是社区同心奉献、共筑文化家园的缩影。未来,学校将继续坚守初心,把中华文化的种子播撒到更多人心中,向着下一个辉煌三十年迈进。

ICCCI Chinese School Hosts 30th Anniversary Teacher Appreciation Event: Passing on Culture, Nurturing Generations

 

Carmel, Indiana — The Indianapolis Chinese Cultural Center (ICCCI) Chinese School recently held a teacher appreciation event, an important part of the series of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the center and the school. Founded in 1995 by nine Chinese immigrant families, the school has grown into a mature community Chinese education center with 28 teachers, 15 Chinese language classes, 23 extracurricular classes, and nearly 300 students.

The event invited over 40 current, retired, and substitute teachers, as well as ICCCI board members, school committee members, and Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) members. Attendees collectively reflected on the school’s 30-year development journey, witnessing its transformation from humble beginnings to present-day achievements. Dr. Zhang Yan, the current principal, stated that the school’s growth was not without challenges and that it was the tireless efforts of all organizers and volunteers that created today’s accomplishments.

 

Three Decades of Dedication: From “Parent-Teachers” to “Diverse Highly Educated Faculty”
In its early days, ICCCI Chinese School relied on parents to serve as teachers, with the mission of “passing on Chinese culture.” Today, the school’s faculty has been significantly strengthened, bringing together PhDs in education, in-service teachers from elementary to high schools, as well as PhDs and master’s degree holders in science and engineering. They bring passion to teaching and have built a rich curriculum system:

  • Cultural Courses: Chinese language as the core, supplemented with traditional painting, martial arts, singing, writing, and more, solidifying students’ cultural foundation;

  • Interest-Based Courses: Outstanding high school students serve as “junior teachers,” offering courses in math, chess, Go, and other subjects to stimulate learning interests;

  • Popular New Courses: Recent additions such as public speaking, modeling, band, and speech/recitation courses have been widely welcomed by students.

Notably, every year, non-Asian students also enroll, making campus culture more diverse and highlighting the unique appeal of Chinese culture.

 

Collaborating Toward the Future: Young Teams + Parent-School Partnership
The younger age profile of the school committee and the growth of the PTO have provided strong support for school development. Beyond improving teaching quality, the school enhances students’ and teachers’ sense of identity, participation, and achievement through events such as carnivals, cultural performances, and academic competitions, helping students take pride in their cultural heritage.

The 30 years of ICCCI Chinese School reflect the community’s united dedication to building a cultural home. Looking ahead, the school will continue to uphold its original mission, sowing the seeds of Chinese culture in more hearts, marching toward the next glorious 30 years.
